Tretinoin Cream USP 0.1% from Obagi/Spear Dermatology is used to treat and control acne by unclogging pores and promoting peeling of skin affected by acne. Although tretinoin does not cure acne, this cream can begin to rehabilitate damaged skin and reduce the visible signs of acne.

Tretinoin with 0.1% strength is prescribed for patients with moderate to severe inflammatory acne problems. This powerful formula is the highest strength of acne treatment manufactured by Spear and offered by Obagi. When used as directed, Tretinoin Cream works to reverse skin damage over the course of the treatment regimen.

Consult your physician, skin care provider, or dermatologist before using Obagi's Tretinoin Cream. The treatment is most effective in treating inflammatory acne when the strength, dosage, and frequency of use is correctly followed. Your doctor or skin care provider can determine the best course of treatment based on your skin type and severity of acne.

Oftentimes patients using Tretinoin Cream will notice their skin becomes red, dry, or irritated during the first one to two weeks of treatment. This is a normal part of the treatment, as tretinoin first works to promote the peeling of dead or unhealthy skin in order for the skin to begin to heal itself. Tretinoin should be used no more than once a day to prevent unnecessary irritation and redness. Typically, acne sores and redness disappear within the first two weeks of consistent application of the cream.

Before applying Tretinoin Cream 0.1%, wash the affected skin area with gentle soap and water. Allow the skin to dry for twenty to thirty minutes before applying the cream with a gauze pad, clean fingertips, or cotton swap. Be sure to cover the affected area lightly with the medication; oversaturating the skin can lead to unnecessary irritation. Also, avoid using this cream on healthy skin.

Directions:

Wash your hands and affected skin area thoroughly with mild, bland soap (not medicated or abrasive soap or soap that dries the skin) and water. To be sure that your skin is thoroughly dry, wait 20-30 minutes before applying tretinoin. Use clean fingertips, a gauze pad, or a cotton swab to apply the medication. Use enough medication to cover the affected area lightly. Do not over saturate the gauze pad or cotton swab. Apply the medication to the affected skin area only (e.g., skin with acne sores).
