Winter can be brutal on your skin. Between the freezing temperatures and dry air, your skin can easily lose moisture and became uncomfortable and cracked. Because winter constantly throws curveballs at your skin care routine, it’s important to switch things up once the temperatures start to drop. You should incorporate different products and adopt new habits that will help your skin stay moisturized and healthy during winter.

Exfoliating
You might stop exfoliating in winter because it can make your skin feel dry and tight, but exfoliating is extremely important during the colder months of the year. You want to strip away damaged, dead skin cells and reveal the fresh, healthy skin cells underneath. Use an exfoliating face wash several times a week to keep your skin looking great all winter long. It’s also a great idea to exfoliate your whole body using a brush. You’ll love how much healthier your skin feels.

Moisturizing
Keeping your skin moisturized is one of the most important skin care steps you can take during winter. Your skin is constantly losing moisture, but that loss occurs even more rapidly once the weather turns cold. Try using a richer, thicker moisturizer in winter to help your skin combat the dry air. Using an oil-based moisturizer can also help your skin stay soft and supple. Be sure to moisturize twice a day – once in the morning when you wake up and once before you go to bed.

Don’t Take Hot Showers
This is a tough tip to follow, but taking hot showers in winter can lead to severely dry skin. It’s best to stick with a lukewarm shower or bath to get clean. After showering, moisturize your entire body with a rich moisturizer to replenish the moisture you lost during the shower. Even if you stick to the advice of taking lukewarm showers during winter, it’s still important to remember to moisturize constantly.

Apply Sunscreen
Your skin is still susceptible to sunburn even in winter. Just because the sun isn’t blaring down doesn’t mean you don’t need to worry about applying sunscreen during the colder months. Even if the sun is hiding behind the clouds on a cold day, your skin can still burn. One great way to ensure you apply sunscreen during winter is to use a moisturizer that has at least SPF 15 sunscreen included in it.
